Code of Conduct
Mandalay cooperates with a small handful of suppliers to ensure continuous innovation but also proper production facilities and ongoing improvement of employee work conditions.
Since our collaboration with our suppliers and sub-contractors has a long time frame, suppliers are often open to dialogue. This in turn allows us to continuously innovate and improve existing products – and to monitor and inspect production facilities and work conditions for the employees.
All manufacturers and suppliers to Mandalay are inspected on regular visits to ensure that:
- child labor is not used
- wood comes from sustainable forests
- optimal working conditions for employees are secured
- the supplier continuously improve production facilities – i.e. to ensure safe working conditions at the factory.
Sustainable Forest
To ensure both short and long term quality, Mandalay has chosen not to use young plantation teak. Instead, Mandalay use high quality teak from forest where we are sure that forestation and replanting is carried out in a sustainable manner in accordance with the original FSC-guidelines. FSC-certified teak available today comes from very young forests – so called plantation teak. This in effect means that the teak has not undergone the usual hardening process often associated with the classic high-end teak. All our teak is stored, aged and kiln dried for six weeks. All teak in our furniture is at least 40 years old and only harvested from sustainable forestation.
’Natural’ teak is – in reality – only found the monsoon regions of Asia. It is therefore important to realize that when holding a piece of FSC-certified teak from South America, it is in reality only young plantation teak that was originally imported for re-planting in South American soil.

About teak
Teak is a dense grained wood which makes it exceptionally strong, durable and resistant to rotting and warping when with or without treatment. Teak is also packed with its own natural oils which produces a smooth weather resistant wood. It is completely natural for weathering to create small cracks or splits in the table top. This is perfectly normal and will not affect the durability of the table top.
Without maintenance, the teak will get a silver grey color. Teak oil will keep – or bring forward – the original golden color of the teak. Oil is however only a cosmetic treatment. It does not prolong the life-expectancy of the wood.
